Legislative Report

Strong Economic Indicators Continue
Saskatchewan heads into the second half of the year with more positive economic numbers, demonstrating our strong economy. June 2025 saw an all-time historical high with more people working in Saskatchewan than ever before, adding 20,500 jobs year-over-year.
Recent labour force data from Statistics Canada show Saskatchewan continues to have the strongest labour market in Canada. We have the lowest unemployment rate among provinces at 4.9 per cent, well below the national average of 6.9 per cent.
Our province is also at the forefront of urban housing starts growth with an 84.1% increase in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. This unprecedented growth is helping to create more jobs, opportunities and greater affordability for the people of Saskatchewan.
More Traffic Safety Improvements
Thanks to a strong and steady economy, we’re able to invest in important areas like traffic safety. Recently, our government announced an investment of nearly $1.54 million through the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund that will support projects in 61 communities.
These grants, ranging from $853 to $100,000, will enhance traffic safety and improve road conditions across the province. Our government will continue ensuring the safety of our roads and the well-being of our communities.
A full list of approved projects and grant amounts can be found on SGI’s website. Applications for the next round of funding are being accepted until September 30, 2025. For more information, visit www.sgi.sk.ca/community-grants-programs.
Expanding Access to Health Care Services
In addition to infrastructure investments, Saskatchewan is making significant progress in improving health care access. A successful pilot project launched in January 2025 has allowed pharmacists to conduct point-of-care testing for strep throat and ear infections.
More than 3,000 services have already been provided across the province, improving access to timely care, particularly in rural and remote areas. This pilot is one of the first of its kind in Canada, highlighting the value of pharmacists’ roles in providing accessible frontline care.
The Regina Urgent Care Centre (UCC) has also proven to be a success. After just one year, the centre has already exceeded expectations with over 41,000 patients receiving care. This is more than double the anticipated volume based on a 24-hour operating model.
Our government would like to thank all the physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners and health care workers for their hard work and dedication. The success of the Regina UCC has paved the way for expansion with construction underway for a new UCC in Saskatoon.
Planning is also underway to add UCCs in other locations including Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, and second locations in both Regina and Saskatoon. These facilities will provide an important alternative to emergency departments, providing more options for timely care.
We continue to strengthen rural and remote services across Saskatchewan. To support this, 77 new permanent full-time health care positions are being added in 30 communities. These positions will support emergency and acute care services and help reduce service disruptions.
This initiative is part of the ongoing implementation of our Health Human Resources Action Plan, launched in 2022, to recruit, train, incentivize and retain Saskatchewan's health workforce. Our government will continue to build on this progress to improve health services in rural and remote communities.
Interprovincial Agreements Signed
As our government continues to invest in the well-being of Saskatchewan people, I am proud of the steps our Premier is making in important discussions with other Premiers. With that said, Saskatchewan's efforts to strengthen interprovincial trade are moving forward.
On July 21, Premier Scott Moe and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance trade between the two provinces. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are committed to building on their long-standing partnership and driving economic growth through initiatives such as direct-to-consumer alcohol sales.
The following day, Premier Moe joined Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to sign an MOU focused on the safe transportation and export of Western Canadian oil, natural gas and critical minerals.
This agreement demonstrates a unified commitment to unlocking new markets, improving supply chains and strengthening our energy security. By collaborating on energy infrastructure such as pipelines and rail connections, we are safeguarding thousands of jobs and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Saskatchewan is also looking to strengthen trade through the Port of Churchill, signing an MOU with Manitoba and the Arctic Gateway Group. This agreement will streamline access to international markets, improve supply chains and foster regional economic growth.
By supporting the development of new transportation corridors, we are creating new opportunities for Saskatchewan’s industries and reducing costs and emissions. Looking ahead, your Saskatchewan Party government remains committed to the betterment of our province and especially its people.
