Highway Improvements Accelerate
Highway crews are gearing up for one of the busiest construction seasons ever – they are about to take on 1,149 km of major highway upgrades and more than 900 km of maintenance work throughout Saskatchewan. The road work is made possible through this year’s $551 million investment in highways and infrastructure, the second largest transportation budget in Saskatchewan history. In three years, our government has spent a total of $1.7 billion on improving highways and infrastructure throughout the province. Creating safer and more efficient roads and highways, is another example of how our government is working to move Saskatchewan forward. For more information check the News Release that also contains access to a complete list of construction projects and a map.
Expanded High Speed Internet Access
Our government is working hard to ensure all of our residents and communities stay connected in today’s fast-paced world. A recent upgrade gives SaskTel internet users in 79 communities, higher download speeds at no extra charge. This upgrade is part of our government’s larger initiative to improve High Speed Internet in 210 communities throughout Saskatchewan. Now, our government is even closer towards achieving our commitment to have 100 per cent High Speed Internet coverage across Saskatchewan by the end of 2011.
Record Oil and Gas Sales
The money Saskatchewan receives from oil and gas sales, hit a new record high in April. Last month’s land sale brought in $190.1 million, the second-highest total for an April land sale. This is another sign that the economic recovery in Saskatchewan is well-underway. Despite the increase, our government remains committed to the cautious resource revenue projections contained in the 2010-2011 budget.
