Child Welfare Review

Our children are the future of Saskatchewan. Therefore, our government is taking steps to ensure all children in our province have a bright and exciting future. This spring, a comprehensive review of child welfare in Saskatchewan will begin. The review will examine the relevant provincial legislation and cover all aspects of child welfare in Saskatchewan including fostering, adoption, child protection and the prevention of child abuse and neglect. The main goal is to help ensure the safety and well-being of all vulnerable children and families throughout the province. Extensive consultations with First Nations and Métis organizations and with other child welfare stakeholders will also be an integral part of this review process. Members of the independent panel reflect the diversity of views and experiences in Saskatchewan and cover First Nations, Métis, rural, urban and youth perspectives. Although unique, these individuals share the same goal of improving lives. As more children find success in Saskatchewan, the stronger our province will be for all future generations.

Joint Saskatchewan-Manitoba Cabinet Meeting

It was once said that coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, but working together is success. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are about to come together for the first time in history for a joint cabinet meeting. Our two provinces will work together on topics including highways and transportation, energy and the environment, and Canada-US relations. Since Manitoba will be assuming responsibility as Chair of the provincial Premiers' Council of the Federation from Saskatchewan later this year, the meeting will also be a great opportunity to discuss ways to co-operate in addressing important national priorities. One of our government’s priorities is expanding cooperation and collaboration with our western provinces. This historic meeting is the beginning of more progress and success to look forward to in Saskatchewan.
