Winter Olympics

Saskatchewan is shining on the world stage at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. In the first week, more than 50,000 people visited the Saskatchewan Pavilion in Vancouver. In fact, on opening day, more than 7,000 people went through it. Thousands of people from around the world are learning about the beauty of the Land of Living Skies.

Saskatchewan’s online Olympic presence is also very popular. The pavilion's website, featuring photos, videos and stories, is averaging 2,510 hits a day. Hundreds of thousands of people are learning about how great it is to live and work in Saskatchewan.

Historic U.S. Meetings

Saskatchewan’s international profile was also increased when Premier Brad Wall led historic meetings in Washington D.C. Premier Wall, the current chair of the Council of the Federation (COF), and other Canadian Premiers, met with the National Governors Association and senior officials from the White House. The meetings focused on trade, energy and the environment. As columnist Murray Mandryk wrote:

“It was Wall at his best in Washington, where he charmed U.S. governors with quotes from John F. Kennedy … his Washington visit will translate into even greater recognition among U.S. powerbrokers of that place in Western Canada with the unpronounceable name.”

As the world emerges from the recession, our government will continue to take action to ensure Saskatchewan is a leader on both the national and international stages.

Coyote Control

Our government’s coyote control program is working. It was implemented last November, and so far 18,000 coyotes have been removed from the provincial population. In recent years, coyotes started forming packs, getting bolder and going into farmyards during daylight hours. They are preying on livestock and threatening the safety of farm families.

Youth Worker Readiness

Following our government’s passage of legislation allowing 14 and 15-year-olds to work, youth must now also successfully complete a course before they can get a job.
