Legislative Report for September 28, 2005
Last week, Premier Lorne Calvert and Minister Eric Cline unveiled Saskatchewan’s Action Plan. Yet as we look at this plan, there is not a lot of substance to it. I believe the days of just saying we need to enhance social programs and find ways to keep youth in this province are past and this would hardly qualify as news or some kind of government call to action.
This NDP government has had many years to make a difference and the changes they have made have lead to this point of the NDP, in 2005, saying they are going to develop plans that will keep our children in the province. Their plans are why our children have left the province. With the new statistics that were just released, we have a further population drain of 425 people from April 2005 –June 2005.
We all know these people who have left. They are our children, grandchildren, friends, neighbours and until real change takes place in Saskatchewan, they aren’t coming back home.
Last year, our leader Brad Wall released an economic plan titled The Promise of Saskatchewan. Unlike Calvert’s plan, it actually includes specific, measurable and accountable ways to improve the economy and bring our families back to the province. Since the NDP can provide lip service but little in the way of action, perhaps they could read the Promise of Saskatchewan and see what real direction and leadership looks like.
