Province Mourns Loss of RCMP Officers

RCMP Constables Robin Cameron and Mark Bourdages will be forever missed. The officers passed away eight days after sustaining gun shots wounds following a high speed chase in the Spiritwood area on July 7. The Saskatchewan Party Caucus extends its deepest condolences and regrets to families and friends of the officers. This is a tragedy that will always be etched in the minds of Saskatchewan people.

We must acknowledge the sacrifices our police officers make and acknowledge all the officers involved in this investigation. We are thankful the search for the suspect came to a peaceful end with the suspect turning himself into the RCMP.

The Saskatchewan Party Caucus would also like to recognize the efforts of the people of Spiritwood who accepted RCMP officers into their homes and businesses. Their generosity is an example of the kind-hearted and giving people that make up small town Saskatchewan. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of grieving and as they start the healing process.

Saskatchewan will continue to mourn the loss of the Constables Cameron and Bourdages this week as funeral services commence. Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation held a wake for Constable Cameron 24-hours a day until the regimental funeral on Friday, July 21. Constable Bourdages’ regimental funeral will be held in Regina at the RCMP Training Academy on Tuesday, July 25. The public is welcome.

We must not forget Constables Cameron and Bourdages and their contribution to the community of Spiritwood, the province of Saskatchewan and their everlasting commitment to public service.

Constable Cameron leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter and Constable Bourdages leaves behind a 9-month-old son and wife, who is also an RCMP officer. A trust fund for the families of both officers has been set up and anyone wishing to make a donation can do so at any branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
